Is that would be great 'cause will probably get started in a few minutes. Um, perfect great. It's all working and we're recording the web and R as well, so I'm going to probably just give it another two minutes and then we'll get started with the.
With the web and R in the presentation on the accelerated nursing program.
Should be about maybe a little bit over an hour. It'll depend on how many questions and answers. Uhm?
Nataly Kofman
12:01:16 PM
Yes!
The group has OK, so we'll get started in about another minute. Um, and again it's being recorded and we're going to share with you. You'll get an email, probably in like 3 days. That just kind of says, hey, this is the recording if you want to hear it again or see it again.

OK, so we're gonna go ahead and get started. Uhm, my name is Philomena Church Ellie. I'm the associate director for our accelerated admissions process. An marketing here at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing and today we're going to talk about the accelerated program.
So before we get started, if at any point you can't hear me or you can't see the PowerPoint, please just send me a quick note because you never know my colleague. Poor thing was doing her webinar yesterday and her UM Internet went out. So we want to make sure that we can hear and see everybody, so hopefully you can. So if there's any issues just put in a quick chat message and then I should be able to see it. And again, if you can't see the web and R or the PowerPoint let you know as well.
OK, so so today, um, I'm probably I'm hopefully only gonna speak for about 30 minutes, maybe 40 and then we are going to open it up to question and answer and you can ask any questions you have about the program as you guys prepare to apply the hopefully applied this coming year or within the next two years. So today we're going to talk about the actual accelerated nursing program. The different options that are available so the different program options within the accelerated umbrella. We're going to talk about the prerequisite courses over the admissions timeline.
The admissions requirements, and then we'll talk a little bit about kind of just the opportunities and, um.
The just the ability. What it means to be a pen nursing student. All of the wonderful things you're going to have access to here at Penn. So those are things that we're going to talk about as well. We'll talk a little bit about some of the clinical placements that we have in the area. Little bit on Philadelphia as a city 'cause I'm sure everyone on line is not just from the area. I'm sure we have people from all over the US in the world.
And then of course, we're going to open it up to Q&A so you can ask any questions that you have about the program. OK, so the accelerated program, so we have one accelerated program, but under the accelerated umbrella, we offer three different options when you're applying, so students can apply to the BSN second degree program, which is for students who know they want to go into nursing. I know I want to be a nurse. I see myself. That's my career choice. That's my goal, but I'm not really positive if I want to be a nurse practitioner.
Or what my goals are at this time? You know, maybe you like a little bit of everything you love working with kids and you love working with the elderly. You like inpatient and outpatient public health and health policy, and you're trying to kind of figure out where you want to be. You can apply at the BSN second degree program, which is just for the RN component of the program. Then we have our direct entry BSN MSN program which is for the student who says, I know I want to be a nurse practitioner in family. I wanted to be a nurse midwife. I want to go into acute care for Pediatrics.
I'm working on Koleji Psych Psych mental health. If you know this specialty and you have a really strong understanding of that specialty, I would definitely recommend applying to the BSN MSN program, which allows you to be admitted to both the bachelors component, which gives you the RN license and the Masters component that gives you either the nurse practitioner certification or the nurse midwifery certification.
Depending on specialty that you choose, then we also have our Hillman BSN to PhD and this is for the student who is truly truly interested in um.
Um, research academia and it's a direct entry. It's a scholars program, so there is scholarship funding for it, so there's a total of, I believe, 75 or $80,000 towards the Helman Scholars program and then the PhD component is fully funded for the three to four years that you're in the program, so this is really for someone who knows when to go into research in academia. This program does not allow you to become a nurse practitioner or a nurse midwife.
And the between the BSN in the PhD you go directly from the BSN to the PhD.
I updated this this we can I forgot to change the date on here so our program starts usually start the second Monday of June every year. So our next start date is June of 2021, not 2020. Our current cohort it's going to be starting in two weeks, so June it'll probably be sometime the second week of June. The program, no matter if you doesn't matter if you apply to the BSN, MSN, the BSN second degree, the BSN to PhD.
The BSN portion itself is the same for everybody, sorry, I went too far. Uhm, the BSN portion is the same for everyone. It's 18 months for the BSN. Everyone will start in early June. Everyone will finish the BSN component at the end of December the following year so December of 2022 and then you'll be eligible to sit forward the end clicks exam and become a registered nurse. If you're in the BSN MSN you might go into the nurse practitioner track or midwifery track right after you finish your BSN.
You may work, go into the work force as an RN. You may need to work as an RN before you can come back. And then if you're in the BSN to PhD we immediately go into the PhD program.
OK, but it doesn't matter which option you choose, your all one cohort, we usually have a class of 85 to 90 accelerated students. You all start the BSN together, you will finish the BSN together and then after that everyone to something different. Now the BSN portion is 18 months now. The length of the graduate specialty. If you're applying BSN, MSN it can vary in it depends on the specialty that you choose so our nurse practitioner programs are 12 to 16 months full time are Nishmat nurse midwifery in administration specialty or?
18 months we also have a nurse anesthesia program which is 3 years full time. You can apply to it currently, but if you were to apply later just know it's a three year program as the degree is different. It's a DMP.
Um, so are we usually have an acceptance rate of about 30%. Sometimes it's a little lower, sometimes it's a little higher. It really depends on the number of applications we get. We get a little over 600 apps and again we try to matriculate a class of 85 to 90.
Emily Glaser
12:08:42 PM
For Nurse Anesthesia, do we need to go back and get acute care experience following receiving our RN for 2 years?
Where a national program, sometimes we have international students as well, but over 17 states are represented from each cohort. Our students ages range from 21 to 50. Plus I will say the majority of our students are between the ages of 24 and 26, but it's the full range of ages and they come from all over come from large state school, smaller bars, colleges, some have graduate degrees. Everyone has a different major.
Randeep Chauhan
12:09:06 PM
30% an average over the three programs?
Every single one of them has a different major we have. We've had theater majors in engineers and accountants, psych biology, human development, child development, as well as public health. You name it, we've had. We've had someone in a major star program, so that's what makes this program so dynamic. Is that everyone comes with a totally different.
Kind of perspective and different experiences, and they all come together into the into the same cohort, which is great. Now the admit rate of 30% is for the entire accelerated program, which we do. It's all three programs lumped in together. We don't really separate them per se, so it's about 30% and maybe it's more or less 30% across the board except for the handle in program 'cause the Hillman program is such a small number that we could have 6 apps and admit three, we could have 10 apps and invent one, so that number can always change depending on the competitiveness and.
Uh, of the applicants themselves, but all the other BS and 2nd degree BSN MSN around the 30% acceptance rate.
Cody Blakley
12:10:07 PM
I am very interested in implementing functional/holistic medicine as an NP, do any of the programs have a focus on this?
So accelerated so this is a little bit of the timeline, so I don't know how many of you are applying to start next June. But even if you're not, even if you're looking to start June of 2022, this is going to be more or less the same timeline you always want to. You're always applying the fall before you want to start, but definitely check our website. Definitely make sure that you know you double check as things can change. We can tweak things, we can move deadlines up, moving back and things like that.
But as of right now the application will go live in July sometime first week of July 2020. The Deb, the application deadline is not until October 15th of 2020. Please note we don't do early decisions. Rolling admissions. It's one deadline we would start reviewing all applications after the October 15th deadline. We go to committee at the end of January we release Oliver admissions decisions in early February and then are we give students about five weeks four to five weeks to let us know that they're coming to Penn.
Gayatri Nair
12:11:08 PM
Any interview?
And then the program begins in early June of 2021, so that's kind of the timeline. So it is kind of a full year of crap and getting ready and doing all of that stuff. But just remember the deadline of October 15th. There's no plans to change the deadline, so you just want to make sure that you are aware of that.
Michal Novak
12:11:17 PM
Because there is no rolling admission, there is no benefit to submitting the application earlier than October, correct?
The prerequisite courses. So this is very important. So for the prerequisite courses, um, all of your courses must be completed by before you start the program. So we recommend all courses be completed by May 31st of 2021. So you can start in June of 2021. You can complete these courses on line, including the science courses. Just make sure there's a virtual lab for the courses we require a lab for, so if you're taking human anatomy, make sure it's human anatomy with a lab, even if it's online.
Uhm, you must complete this course. Is that in accredited college or University? So just double check some of these online. There's an online program called Straighterline are University and I don't think it's accredited for our purposes. But you know?
There's a lot of online programs out there, and of course with the current crisis.
That we have here in the in the world. Actually, most of the schools this summer and possibly in the fall are going to be on line, which is perfectly fine. Just make sure that you've got those virtual labs with it.
Michal Novak
12:12:25 PM
Are there any online programs that you recommend? Is there a preference between an online community college course or fully online school's course?
Paige Wickenden
12:12:28 PM
Do you require recommendation letters?
Danielle Robinson
12:12:32 PM
Do we have to take these courses before applying?
Jake Szczypek
12:12:40 PM
Is the Intro to Biology required if General Biology was taken (but over 10 years ago)?
Randeep Chauhan
12:12:49 PM
If our school uses quarters, do we need 3 to substitute for 2 semesters?
You also have to have a C or higher for all of your courses to transfer, so if you have a C minus in any of these prereqs, you have to retake the class. You have a C or higher. We can still accepted for transfer credit. Now we're going to talk a little bit about what makes up with the Admissions Committee is looking for, but I will say we want to see stronger grades in anatomy and Physiology, so that's really important. So anatomy and Physiology.
Christina Rosario
12:12:57 PM
Do pre-requisites need to be retaken if they are older than 5 years old?
Is where we want to see is stronger grades and hopefully have them completed within the last few years. So we have a recommended time limit of five to six years for anatomy and Physiology and microbiology. OK, we definitely really want those to be within the five year mark. They might go six years, but you know, look at Micro. There's always new viruses and new stuff coming up, so it's good to have a more recent micro course and anatomy and Physiology is just very, very important.
Emily Yam
12:13:21 PM
Does General Biology I count for the bio prerequisite? Or must I go take Intro to Biology?
Um, for your success, Europe and so the more recent it is. Uhm, the stronger their grades are, the more competitive your application will be. Now if you took chemistry and biology freshman year and you received to see in those classes, you do not have to retake that class for patent, especially if you read if you've taken a whole bunch of other science courses, you've done really well and then their recent I wouldn't worry about retaking them. That being said, that's just pen. If you're looking at other schools. Some schools have a minimum of a B average for all the courses to transfer.
Jessica Jiang
12:13:56 PM
Are online courses accepted for prerequisite requirement?
Some schools it's a B minus some schools. It's a cumulative of a 3 point hour cumulative a 3.5. So just double Check all the other schools but we will accept AC or higher. Uhm, you know. So for intro to so we have two semesters of human anatomy and Physiology with lab. It's really really really important that you do not take a comparative Anatomy Course an that you make sure it's human based.
Alex Westcott
12:14:25 PM
At what point do clinicals start?
Taylette Nunez
12:14:30 PM
Do pre-reqs have to be taken within 5 years at time of application or time that you start the program?
You can do it a combination of different ways you can do anatomy and Physiology. Part one and Part 2, or you can do one semester of human anatomy plus one semester of human Physiology, both with labs meets our requirement. Intrada Cam is just your general chemistry course. It can be called principles of Chem Intuitive General Cam. Various schools have various titles for them as long as it's kind of the intro to the general inorganic chemistry, we will accept it. You do not need organic camp for our program.
Enter the biology. We do not require a lab. This is the only science course we do not require a lab. Intuitive bio can be principles of Biology, Internal Biology, Cell Biology, molecular bio, genetics, anything within the biology world. We will accept it.
Connie Truong
12:15:21 PM
does Penn recalculate pre-req GPAs?
And then of course, microbiology. Internal microbiology. Sometimes it's called Intrada bacteriology, but it has to be a micro course. If you took a molecular genetics course or molecular bio course, that is not going to need them. Microbiology course even if you covered a little bit of fungi and infectious diseases and things like that. In turn nutrition. Make sure to human nutrition course keep it simple. Just keep it interesting nutrition. Try to stay away from like sports Medison or food and nutrition where you talk about like.
Jenny Stephans
12:15:55 PM
If you earned your intro chem credits with your AP scores, does this count? Would upper chem class (e.g. AChem, PChem, OChem) be accepted to replace the intro class?
The dynamics of food and food, food resources, and so there's a lot of different nutrition courses out there. Just keep it simple and then for statistics we accept all levels of stats so we accept business stats, bio stats, social stats. You know any statistics course as long as it is a truly a statistics course. So if you were a psych major and you took statistics for psychology majors that we would accept that as well, and then we have health care ethics also known as bio.
Ethics medical ethics. That class is completely optional and it's up to you if you would like to complete a prior to starting the program. Or you can take it at pet.
Emily Glaser
12:16:24 PM
What do you look for in applicants since they are so diverse?
Application requirements so just a little bit on the requirements. So the great news is that we everything is completed online for Patton. All of our application requirements is online. We have an application system called slate which is really user friendly system in it's your typical application so we have a personal statement.
Emily Yam
12:17:04 PM
If we have taken several acceptable stats courses before, do you take the higher stat course grade for the prerequisite gpa?
Which I'm going to talk a little bit more about on the next slide, but personal statement, why pen, why nursing? What are your future goals? Where do you see yourself practicing? Why do you want to do it at Penn? Those are things that you really want to make sure you put into that personal statement. Honestly, it's probably the number one. It's probably tide with. Like your science grades. That personal statement can really, really help make you a competitive applicant if you can just really talk about nursing. There's a lot of health care careers out there where nursing doesn't have to be. The one that you choose, right? So you have to explain why it's a good fit for you.
Kaitlyn Chalmers
12:17:14 PM
If only applying for the second degree BSN, is the GRE required?
Kasey Stewart
12:17:24 PM
My school offers anatomy with a lab, but does not offer physiology with a lab... do I need to retake physiology online with a virtual lab?
If you've had a career before, if you've worked in the business world, why are you switching? If you were, you know, going down the research world, an working bench science, what made you switch and really talk about the role of nursing and why it's a good fit for you. Because I think those are really important aspects that can make you stand out in the admissions process.
Two recommendations strongly, strongly, strongly um recommend that you have an academic recommendation. Now if you've been out of school for just two to three years, I would recommend an academic recommendation. If you've been out of school for 10 years and you're just like, well, I could have my Community College professor or my online professor right in academic rack. But it's not going to be great. You have enough work history behind you that you can do. You know, supervisor, type of recommendations, and that's fine.
The one thing I strongly recommend is if you are when you're doing your recommenders academic recommendations where the professor is grading you and your quality of work is being evaluated and your leadership skills are being evaluated or is important. Supervisor Rex same type of thing you're accountable to your supervisor, you're accountable to the work that you do. Those two wrecks really hold a lot of weight in the admissions process.
Randeep Chauhan
12:18:45 PM
Do you prefer academic letters from science departments?
I strongly recommend not having you know a coworker. Write your recommendation, um, strongly recommend if you've done some volunteer work and maybe you've shadowed nurses or nurse practitioners that they're not one of your two required recommendations, because again, you know they're not.
Evaluating you on any sort of basis, there just kind of saying, hey, I could see this person in the Healthcare Field, which is really important, but the you want those recommendations to talk about your leadership skills, your academic ability, your goals, what you did before, and how you came to this decision. So it kind of all comes together in the application. So really, think about those recommenders. I know it can be hard if you've been out of school for a while, but if you're still taking classes right now, trying to get a relationship with the professor, I think that can make a huge difference.
All of your college transcript. So currently the way we do our process is that you just submit unofficial. You upload copies of your transcripts to the application so that we will really be able to review the application in its entire T if you were accepted. That is when we will need official official transcripts are going to be required only after your admitted, so hopefully that will save some people's money. 'cause I know it's really expensive to get a lot of these transcripts sent everywhere, but just make sure your name is on the copy that you upload.
The name of the school is on the copy that you upload, and if you've already completed your degree that you get a copy you submit to you, submit a copy that has your degree conferred on the app on the copy. An unofficial transcript are sending because those are the things we're looking for. We need to make sure it's your has your name on it. We know what school you went too and if you completed a degree that the degree is noted on that copy that you're uploading to your application.
Randeep Chauhan
12:20:20 PM
is there a centralized application services like the AMCAS?
Resume is really important. We're going to talk a little bit more about that Next up so we uhm.
The resume you definitely want to somehow highlight your health care experience and we're going to talk a little bit about what the health care experiences that we're looking for. We're not like a lot of other health care professional schools where you have to do 500 hours of clinical service. You have to do 20 hours of observation, etc etc. We don't do that, and it's really up to the student.
To the applicant to really tell us like these are the experiences I have, these are the experiences led me to nursing and these are the experiences that have confirmed my interest in nursing. So we're going to talk a little bit more about that on the next slide.
The jury is required. If you applied BSN, MSN BSN, PhD.
If you apply to the Hillman, BSN to PhD, you have to take the juries in order to be an applicant.
But if you're applying to the BSN, MSN, we are. We do have a Jerry waiver so if your bachelors degree is a 3.2 or higher or you already have a graduate degree, we waive the jury and you don't have to do anything. You just click the Jerry Waiver. We double check your GPA and we waive the giardi for you.
Our application has a video interview component to it. We're going to tweak the questions a little bit, but it's really going to be about.
Bronwyn Wallace
12:21:49 PM
Do you accept Bachelor's degrees from overseas in order to get the GRE waiver?
Holly Flint
12:22:00 PM
Are any other tests accepted as a substitute?
You know, kind of you and your journey to nursing and to pen. So we're going to talk a little bit about like what you're excited about. What opportunities are excited about to come to take advantage of as a Penn Student? Really kind of. Maybe spend some time talking about your goals and.
And also a little bit about kind of you like your leadership skills. So that's going to be the interview you're going to know the question. It's going to be a kind of like a.
Emily Yam
12:22:20 PM
Are the chances of getting accepted still good if you do not have any healthcare experience? What does Penn think of lab research experience in psych?
Three part question and then you have like 5 minutes to record your video interview. You have two different chances to record it and it's all outlined on the application. Please note we don't use a centralized application service, so you have to apply directly to pen through our admissions process.
So our own application and then we've got financial aid which we offer here at Penn. Uhm, and the deadline for that will be at the end of the year.
Kaitlyn Chalmers
12:22:41 PM
Is General Biology for non-science majors accepted?
So what is the admissions committee looking for? and I know this can be very difficult. Every school is very, very different, so I will say.
Kind of two parts right? We look at the quantitative aspects of your application, so we're going to look at your undergraduate GPA. The average GPA, the admitted classes at 3.5, but I promise you we admit students under 3.0 every single year, and we admit a really good number of students under 3.0 every single year.
Randeep Chauhan
12:23:17 PM
Do we apply to Penn Nursing, and University of Penn as a Post-Bacc?
That being said, if you are a new grad, if you graduated within the last two to three years, your undergraduate GPA is so much more important to the overall application process because you have limited.
Jenny Stephans
12:23:35 PM
Does Bachelor's Degree GPA also take the retakes into account?
Experience in the world. In terms of like working, an kind of healthcare, exposure or just kind of like experiences that we can look at that we can also evaluate if you've been out of school for 10 years or 20 years or eight years, the GPA becomes less important in everything you've done since then gets highlighted. An looked at differently so we do look at the GPA. It's not the end and be all for us at Penn because we you know we've got students who have low GPA's.
That have taken science, science, heavy curriculum and those who have low GPS with non science heavy curriculum. So we look at everything. We're a very holistic.
We have a very holistic review process. OK, we're looking at the entire application. All of its all of the pieces we read. Every single piece that comes in. We don't.
I'm screen them and only read certain GPA ones and only certain etc. So we look at every single application, so the average GPA is one aspect.
Is the science grades, so I mentioned this before. Strongly recommend anatomy and Physiology.
Kassaundra Tickle
12:24:53 PM
What if I just graduated with barely a 3.2 but have worked full time in healthcare the entire time during my undergrad?
Are solid grades OK? Now if you took MP while you were a full time student in undergrad, it's you know and you gotta be in the class. It's not the end of the world, you know for your admissions process, but if you are taking these courses after you've graduated on a part time basis at a local school or online, we want to see higher grades. The really important thing is that any of the Science Prereq courses you take or any of your recent coursework, I'd say within the last year to two years, we want to see stronger grades in those.
Because it kind of shows your commitment to the field to nursing, so we're going to be looking at you know how did you do an amp, but how did you do over the last year and a half of any of the courses that you've completed? Did you do well in those classes? How are you performing in those classes? That sort of thing, and then. So that's the number side of a right? And they are what they are. If you haven't completed all the prereqs, you have a little bit of leeway there to do. Even better in some of those classes, but they are what they are. Your GPA is what is. So this other piece can really really.
Randeep Chauhan

Do you need direct research experience prior to applying for Hillman?
Help you stand out within the admissions process, so we want soon to have exposure to Health Care now for Penn exposure to health care means everything. From shadowing, volunteer work, research experience, clinical experience, a personal health care experience. Maybe you fell a family member? Go through a really difficult time and you realize the care of the nurses were giving. Maybe you've had your own health care scare and you've kind of come to terms with the care that you were given in that situation.
It's everything under the sun. This is where your job comes in. This is where the personal statement and the resume come in.
You need to really think about what has driven me to the field of nursing. Why do I want to do this? We have students that come from a research background, so they're doing their clinical research coordinator and their meeting patients and their recruiting patients for these research projects. And then through that experience, they've kind of fall in love with clinical practice. We have students who were in the business failed, but somehow had a personal experience and realize that this was such a better fit for them. You want to explain those that that kind of experience you want to?
I've had students who you know worked in public policy for a really long time, and.
Realize they wanted to go into clinical practice. They felt like they could make a bigger difference. There voice could be heard, they could understand more. They can make more change. So everyone comes to nursing and that's what makes this career amazing. Now I'm not a nurse, but I've seen so many of our students go through this program. Everyone comes in with this goal to help people, but all of these other goals that they come with it. You know, it's too. I want to work in public policy. I want to change policy at the state level at the national level. I want to work in public health and health promotion and health policy.
Prevention I want to work with underserved communities. I want to work in a Community Center. I want to do community clinical clinic clinic work in a community. I want to work at a large hospital and really look at how they do.
I see you a care and what can we make and how can you make these changes? Where I've seen you know through personal experience all of these things that have gone wrong with a friend or family member. How do we make things better so people come into this field for so many reasons with so many different goals? Please take the time to kind of really expressed that in your application. So exposure to health care.
It can be highlighted on your resume. You can talk about it in your personal statement and something else that's not here is also really talk about how pen is going to help you get to where you want to do where you want to be.
So we have. These are all of our graduate specialties that we offer. So as a BSN MSN student you can only apply to the nurse practitioner track.
Nurse midwifery health leadership, nursing and Healthcare administration. Currently nursing a seizure you're not eligible to apply for at this time because it is a DNP program, so you have to go out into the workforce, work for a few years in the ICU, then come back and apply to the program. But we do have some great resources while you're a student at Penn, you're going to get your going to do info sessions with the program directors for the nursing thesia program. They're going to be great resources for you.
Before you go out into the workforce while you're looking for that perfect ICU experience, you're going to get a lot of resources and a lot of support as you're kind of trying to figure out where you should work in what you should do. But just to know you cannot apply to the anesthesia program at the time of application. And we also don't have a SIM matriculation option for anesthesia and I'm going to talk a little bit more about that in a second, but these are all the specialties we choose. You can choose from so we have a lot. We have everything you could possibly think of. I think the only program we don't have is like nursing education.

Can I apply for Psych/Mental Health in the BSN/MSN tract
But other than that, we have it so those are all the programs you can apply to as a BSN MSN student now.
Jenny Stephans
12:29:42 PM
What's the acceptance rate for Pediatric Acute Care?
The one thing to note so you know the BSN portion at Penn is very very very structured. OK 18 months starts in June. You finish the following December. You have to follow the curriculum. Everything kind of builds on each each other. There's not a lot of moving around. There's not a lot of flexibility. It's full time only, but the Masters programs most of ours have a lot of flexibility. They can be done part time or full time. You can start in the spring, possibly summer, possibly fall. You can work full time and go to school part time.
So you have a lot more flexibility when it comes to completing that graduate degree, so it gives you time to work as an RN if even if you don't have to. You're just like I love being a nursing student. I really love the nursing role. I'm going to work as an RN for a few years and I'll do my Masters part time.
Some of our programs, as you can see on the slide, Peach critical care, acute, chronic, and oncology all require work experience of at least one year. Neonatal is 2 years. Si RNA is technically one year, but you really need to work two years because six months of your first year's orientation. So two years in si RNA and the adult acute care specialty is one year as well, so you have to work in those fields as a nurse, but you can still apply to them as a BSN MSN student. You can.
Possibly take classes that are non clinical while you're finishing your work experience so that maybe you can continue to work full time and go to school part time. Every program is slightly different.
Yazmine Hooper
12:31:18 PM
For current undergraduate applicants, is the GPA calculated by the university that they will be graduating from or is it cumulative of all of the institutions attended?
But you have little bit more flexibility when it comes to that Masters Program, I would say.
who are in the primary care programs go straight through the full time everyone else really does go into the workforce workforce and works as an RN in a variety of different settings. So just know that's.
I think, uhm, OK, so nursing this tesia nurse midwifery are currently full time only programs.
So just keep that in mind.
Now, one of the benefits of being a BSN MSN student is that you get to take three courses.
In your bachelors component, well that will count towards your Masters degree. It doesn't shorten the program, but it def.
Only save you some money at the Masters level. OK, we also don't lock you into your specialty, so let's say you come in BSN, MSN, fur FNP and you get here and you're like, no, I need to do Pediatrics. I don't want to work with adults. You can change. You can request a specialty change now. It's not guaranteed.
Giovana Coelho
12:32:33 PM
Does Penn assist BSN students with finding work required for those programs?
But if you can articulate why you want to change, if you can express your interest and why you want to change honestly, it's usually pretty simple. The only thing that can be a little bit of a hiccup is that you might not be able to start when you want to write, depending on when you switch. If you switch towards the end of your BSN, you might have to wait an extra year to start your Masters because we've already filled that cohort size, so that's just something to think about, but we walk you through that once you're at Penn.
We also give all of our students all of our BSN MSN students five years to come back and finish their Masters degree from the date that they finish their bachelors. If you graduate in December of 2022, you have until December of 2027 to come back and complete your project.
Wife in administration or leadership and that gives you so much flexibility in terms of how you want to do that graduate program and also gives you time to decide 'cause sometimes students are very, very sure when they start, but as you go through all these different clinical experiences you might start to 2nd guess yourself so you could take a year off just to make sure you really want to do pizza oncology 'cause you might want to just do peace primary so you can take the time to kind of figure that out and we talked about part time full time.
OK, so this is a plan of study. This is our BSN plan of study. It hasn't changed.
It could change next year, but it hasn't changed. There's always a something that's always subject to change, but this is our plan of study and just so that you know the classes that have astrex next to them. So like nursing two 15235 to 25 RR clinical courses we do, we have Seven clinical courses. We do. Clinical Pediatrics, we do clinicals
Randeep Chauhan
12:34:11 PM
how closely does the program work with the medical school, affiliated hospitals in the area? Is it common for students to work in the hospitals where they trained after graduation?
In Psych we do clinicals, Indiana OB GY NS well women Med Surg, Gerontology, Community Nursing and the very last semester of your BSN. You actually get to request where you want to spend your semester so you can request to be in the ER in the ICU. Pizza oncology nuro Ortho community site, the VA but it's a request so there's absolutely no guarantee you'll get that site but you get to pick your first, second and third choice, so hopefully there's a couple of different experiences that you want.
You'll get them and that last semester is 1 on one preceptorship. Prior to that, it's eight students to every clinical instructor. After that, there might be 6 of you in the labor and delivery floor, but you each have your own nursing preceptor for your entire fall semester, and that semester. Really kind of allows you to kind of grow into that role of nurse. Kind of it that transition year where you're really taking on your nurse preceptor.
Patience. You're kind of doing everything that they 3/4 of what they would be doing and really understanding kind of the role of nursing.
Maddy Berg
12:35:28 PM
Do you have a greater chance getting into Penn's MSN program after completing the accelerated BSN program?
You can also request the ICU, but like I said not required. Not not not guaranteed.
Alright, so these are just some of the clinical placements that we have. We are extremely, extremely fortunate where we're located. For those of you that are not from the Philadelphia area or have been to Philly before, the nursing school is literally right next to the Children's Hospital, Philadelphia Uhm.
And which is the number to Children's Hospital in the country? It's not exactly right next door and many many, many of our pediatric faculty have appointments at shop.
The hospital University, Pennsylvania, which we call hub for short, is one of the top 20 hospitals in the country, and it's right next to the nursing school as well. Pennsylvania hospital, which is technically the first hospital in the US 'cause there's a lot of history here in Philadelphia. Uhm, and was independent for hundreds of years before it was part of the health system that's downtown in near the Liberty Bell. Kind of the historic district of Philadelphia and then Presbyterian Medical Center is 6 blocks North of the nursing building, and that is part of the health system as well.
And those are places your going to your clinical. So all of our pediatric rotations are at the Children's Hospital. Philadelphia Oliver Med, Surg and Gero rotations are at Presbyterian Medical Center or hub, so three of your Seven clinicals or within walking distance of our building, which is great. And then the capstone, which is the last semester in the fall where you get to request we want to spend your semester. That one is usually at one of those three hospitals plus Pennsylvania Hospital, 'cause we do a lot of Labor and delivery there as well.
We also have some. We have the Philadelphia VA Medical Center which is only three blocks north and then we have some suburban hospitals in the Philly area that we use Lankenau hospital, Paoli hospital community locations. We go to nursing homes, Hospice schools, prisons, clinics, behavior health centers, rehab centers.
That's kind of our community clinical. We do Department of Public health. We go to schools. I'm sorry, um to libraries and do public health.
Bronwyn Wallace
12:37:34 PM
What's the advantage of applying for the BSN-MSN program, as opposed to applying for BSN and then returning later to complete for MSN? Is it more than simply having to only go through one application process?
Educational seminars etc.
Sakura Tamaki
12:38:02 PM
If you are accepted in the BSN-MSN program, are you able to defer your MSN studies if you decide to practice as a CRN for a year or two?
OK, and then we also have another 200 other locations an matches for the BSN portion. If you add in our Masters approach portion we have thousands and thousands of clinical sites but the great thing is that you don't need a car for the BSN portion of the program so you can come to Penn live in the city. It's easy to get to campus were part of the city we just were West of the downtown area. You can live here. You don't need a car but depending on the graduate specialty you choose.
At some point you may need access to a car and we kind of work with the faculty and we kind of figure out what the best option is. Sometimes students will rent a car just for the semester they might do Philly car share, or they might buy a car. Like if you're a nurse anesthesia student. You're here for three years. You need access to a car because we go everywhere we go to up to a 2 hour drive for some of these clinical sites. So it's important to know that you might need access to a car or might need your own car at the Masters level, but you don't need it for those first.
18 months, which is huge.
Some of the opportunities that are available. You know one of the things I always tell students about pen. The beauty of Kenner seen is that the nursing schools of very small school were only about 1300 students from the BSN to the PhD. You really get to know the faculty you really get to know our staff at Penn and you get to know your cohort very well but you have access to the large University of access to all of the opportunities that pen can offer through its research. Different student organizations. We do a lot of.
Interdisciplinary research and study. So we have direct entry direct joint programs with Masters of Public Health Masters. The Bioethics Masters of Business Administration, and the Masters of law.
Jess Urkov
12:39:36 PM
Can you get a combined MSN/MPH through the BSN program?
So those are just some options while you're finishing your MSN that you can kind of add and continue your education. We also have wonderful opportunity for a second degree students to some matriculate into our graduate program. So the way this summer tribulation option works is that in the spring, so that would be January of 2022. You can apply to any one of our MSN specialties, so that includes a nurse practitioner, programs, midwifery administration, and leadership, and.
Sierra Spain
12:40:13 PM
Does shadowing physical/speech/ occupational therapy count as healthcare experience that is relevant to what Penn is looking for?
Kassaundra Tickle
12:40:17 PM
can you apply to both programs?
You can apply to him and become a BSN MSN student and take advantage of all of those opportunities taking graduate level courses. Being able to go part time for summer far specialties work full time. Go to school part time you'll have all of those opportunities. I say about 60% of our second degrees apply to the Masters program and we have over 90% acceptance rate. It is not guaranteed acceptance but over 90% acceptance rate and then we also have some study abroad programs. This is just kind of.
A list and it can change from year to year. So like we've been going to Botswana for almost 15 years, but the last two years we didn't go to Botswana and they just created a program in Trinidad but I don't think we were going this summer because of everything that's going on so that program can change so we do have countries that we visit that you can do a study abroad program. Most of our broad programs are two to four weeks and you go abroad during the break time. OK so it doesn't interfere with your plan is study and these are some of the short-term study abroad programs you can go to.
And then we also have pen global programs, which is through the University. They have some short term study abroad programs that sometimes our accelerated students can take advantage of.
So these are some of the resources. Like I mentioned, small school, great offices, student services, wonderful faculty, advisors, peer advisors that everyone is assigned before they get here. You also have access to the University resources, career services that counseling center are Learning Resource Center, which includes the Writing Center, the Tutoring Center student of students of disability disabilities office.
You have access to the fitness center, but I will say you only have access to the fitness centers in the academic semesters, not the summers I know.
I wish we could change that OK and my last slide for those of you that are not from Philadelphia. It's a great city. Hopefully, uh, when the crisis is over and everything kind of opens up again. You'll be able to come and visit the city. We are located in Philadelphia, uhm. We are historical city.
Ali Legg
12:42:11 PM
what is the cost of the program?
Prevail Constitution Center, America's First Capital. I think we have the first of a lot of the United States. You know, the first hospital first business goal. I think first University, maybe there's something else magical. Maybe I have to look into it. I had a list I keep forgetting to remind myself, but a lot of wonderful history here in Philadelphia.
Obviously when you compare the history to the world history or not that old or historic. But if you compare it to the United States, there's a lot of great history here. Um, we have great foods were huge foodie town, so many wonderful restaurants. Everything from you know steakhouses to vegan any kind of.
Michal Novak
12:42:53 PM
What percentage of students are on financial aid? What is the average grant?
Types of food that you're looking for. We have it here in Philadelphia and were huge sports city. So if you love sports and.
But that brings to the city. Then you can.
Emily Yam
12:42:57 PM
What are your financial aid packages like?
Megan Bentley
12:42:58 PM
What is the tuition for both BSN and MSN?
Grace Ostrop
12:43:08 PM
Just to be clear, if we are interested in the traditional undergrad BSN program, we just apply through regular undergrad UPenn admissions?
Daniella Asafu-Adjaye
12:43:12 PM
Would a letter of rec from my research PI, whom I work closely with, qualify as an academic rec since I obtain academic credit for the research? Thank you very much for all of the information!
Alright, so now what I'm going to do is I'm going to scroll back up 'cause I know there was a lot of questions I'm going to start from the very first question and Scroll down and hopefully we can get them all answered. OK, so the first question was for nursing a seizure, do we need to go back and get acute care experience?
Bronwyn Wallace
12:43:21 PM
For Intro to Bio pre-requisite, will you accept Human Biology class (with lab) and Genetics class?
Following receiving on your arm for two years, yes, you finished the BSN. Take the ancl X. You have to get an ICU job and work for close to two years and then you apply to the nurse anesthesia program which is a DMP adopted in nursing practice. And it's three years full time.
Zach Dae
12:43:45 PM
if you have to take courses to meet prerequisites can they be taken during the application process or would you have to wait until the following year to apply?
I answered that 30% on average over the Three program, so it's mostly the BSN, MSN and 2nd degree that average 30% over the last few years. The Hillman really fluctuates from year to year, sometimes it's 50%, sometimes it's 10. It's very random and it depends on the applicants and how competitive they are.
Randeep Chauhan
12:43:53 PM
what housing options are available? For those of us from different parts of the country, does the university have apartments for students to lease?
Sara Boufakhreddine
12:43:58 PM
Thank you so much for your time in providing information about Penn's various programs and touching on some of its cultural elements! This was very helpful as a multicultural student. I look forward to learning more about UPenn throughout this process. Take care!
Jillian Umali
12:44:08 PM
If you apply to the BSN/MSN program, can you just get accepted into the BSN and not the MSN portion? Then submatriculate later on?
We do not currently offer any interviews except for our helmet. Students are Hillman students do have an interview for the PhD portion of the program, and you're invited to interview both in person or via Skype. All the other interviews are video interviews at the faculty will have access to.
Emily Yam
12:44:12 PM
Could you be denied for the msn program but accepted to the bsn program if you applied to both?
Because there is no rolling the mission, there's no benefits of submitting the application earlier than October, correct? Yes, correct. At this point, no. I mean the only thing is when we have your application.
Emily Yam
12:44:41 PM
Could you explain the interview process a bit more?
Sometimes we can. You can know that it's complete and ready to go. You know I would say within that first week, you know. Apply within that month of October. I feel like everyone we'd still like October 15th and we get like 85% of our applications within 48 hours. But there is no benefit in the sense that we will not be reviewing the application or releasing decisions earlier.
Catherine Yuan
12:44:56 PM
If we are in the BSN/MSN program and interested in the combined programs like MSN/MPH or MSN/MBA, when do we start applying to the other (MPH or MBA) program?
Elizabeth Opdyke
12:45:11 PM
Am I able to take the prerequisites and still apply for the program and send the transcripts at a later time?
Are there any online programs that you recommend? Is their preference between an online Community College or fooling online schools? Course? No. Not at all. So I will say like if you're at a local Community College, those courses are perfectly fine. Can be done online. There's a school called Portage learning which through Geneva college out of Pitts Burg. A lot of students have been taking the prereqs there because they you kind of start when you're ready and you have several weeks to complete the class. It gives you a little bit more flexibility for students depending on their work schedule and things. University of New England has some online courses.
Kathy Nguyen
12:45:32 PM
tuition cost for programs and what are the options for those who has financial aid that now "exceed aggregate maximum for loans"?
There's a school called Doanne DOA, an University. They have some online courses that I've seen students take University of Rochester, but honestly, whatever works for you in your schedule, just make sure it's accredited. Uhm, we should be able to take it.
We do require recommendation letters. We require 2 letters, but you can submit up to three. So if you've got two really strong academic academic supervisor wreck and your third wreck would be maybe someone you volunteered with, or someone you shadowed, I would go ahead and submit that third recommendation.
Connie Truong
12:46:04 PM
how do we make sure that online courses are accredited? is there a specific accreditation needed?
You do not have to take the courses before you apply. You can apply while you're completing the courses, but I will say if you do not have a lot of science courses completed and you're planning to complete all the prerequisite courses in the fall in the spring, you were at slightly.
Paige Wickenden
12:46:17 PM
if i completed some prerequisites at a community college and they're not weighed into my undergraduate GPA, which is just below a 3.2, but i got high grades in these classes am i still required to take the GRE
Victoria King
12:46:29 PM
Is there a financial commitment if you do the BSN-MSN? Suppose we go into the work force and decide we don’t want to come back for the MSN, is there a penalty?
Randeep Chauhan
12:46:41 PM
If we take UPenn courses on Coursera and earn a certificate, do we include it on our resume? I know it's not a college course, but if it's important to your decision to choose Penn. Martin Seligman's Positive Psychology courses at Penn for example
You have a slight disadvantage within the admissions process because one of the aspects we're looking at is your science courses and are you academically prepared to do this program and we won't know that if we don't have grades for it. So if you don't have a science background, I strongly recommend taking at least one science course this summer, and then maybe 2 in the fall, 'cause then by the time we go to committee will have three of your science courses completed, which will help your application process. If you are a science major, you have a lot of science courses and you just have to complete like three additional classes.
It's perfectly fine to do them after you submit your application.
Bronwyn Wallace
12:46:50 PM
I completed Stats 19 years ago, should I retake? Should I take math courses and Stats again to refresh?
Is the internal bio required? If general bio was taken, it's entered. The bio is definitely required, but the general bio course will meet the requirement even if it's over 10 years old.
Like I said Chem bio nutrition.
I think stats Yeah can all be over 10 years old, amp definitely 5. Sometimes we can stretch it 6 if you have other courses that look pretty solid. Uhm and microbiology. Definitely like five to six years is fine.
Do prerequisites need to be retaken if their older than five years? No, only if anatomy and Physiology is older than five years should it be retaken if micro is older than five years, email me up. You can email admissions at nursing. I get those emails as well and you can just kind of tell me when you took it where you took it and then we can decide if you have to retake my Chrome.
General bio discount for the bio requirement.
On line courses are accepted for prerequisite requirements.
So clinicals will actually start in August, so our program begins in June and in the summer, so there's nine weeks between June and August where you will be doing simulation in our simulation lab. So its head to toe assessment. You're kind of learning the foundations of nursing. You're also doing some pharmacology simulation 'cause you have pacifist farm in the summer, but there's no like outpatient clinical experience. There is like an observation ull day with one of our alarm.
Which you are in the clinical environment, but it's not technically a clinical course. The clinical courses will start around August, like the third week of August is when our clinical start. You'll do five weeks of OB, which is technically or fall semester. Five weeks of Sight, six weeks of peas, and that's all you know, ten weeks after you start the program.
Elizabeth Opdyke
12:48:47 PM
where can I find transferable credits? I do have some of the courses from undergrad, but I want to make sure they can transfer or are accepted!
Victoria King
12:48:48 PM
We are considered full time students, does that mean 5 days a week for a full day?
Just pen recalculate. Prereq GPA's we don't so we don't do a science GPA because.
Zach Dae
12:49:06 PM
does the 5 year requirement start from the year you graduate or the year the the course was completed?
Yazmine Hooper
12:49:14 PM
There is a dire need for more nurses of color given that health disparities are rampant in our communities. Are there any organizations that increase awareness for nurses of color? What are the demographics for students of color? * specifically African descended and Latinx
A lot of our students are taking prereqs as their applying, so it's slightly unfair to have like a science GPA for someone who has three of the classes done versus someone with all the classes done. So what we do is we kind of note them in our review of like what classes did they take? If you took, you know, let's say you took amp freshman year like 8 years ago and received a C on it and you're retaking it, we're going to look at both grades, but we're going to look at the more recent grade because that's much more important to us.
So you can retake the classes again and we will look at your will. Look at both of them, but we will take your most recent great.
If you earned your intro Chem credits with your AP score discount, so um.
Oh, if you have upper chemistry courses that will definitely meet our chemistry requirement. If you took a pee Cam, I think you have to have a 5 on it for it to count. Just email me. I know we accept the five in AP bio, but I'm not I have to double check for chemistry. I don't know if it's still accepted, but if you have advanced chemistry courses you're fine.
Lillian Quach
12:50:16 PM
If my school offers two semester worth of general chemistry and I have only taken the first half of the general chemistry class (one semester), would it still count for the chemistry pre-requisite at Penn?
Um, what do you look for in applicants since there's so diverse? We definitely do. Like I mentioned before, a very holistic approach to the admissions process. So we look at your academic preparedness, or you want to be successful in the program. It moves fast. I know where one of the longer programs, but you'd be surprised how fast it moves and how busy you are. And just being able to have that strong foundation to be successful academically. And then we were just really look at what you're going to bring to the table. You know what experiences do you have? What are your goals? How do you want to contribute to the community?
Can a man and that peace will kind of influence the decision 'cause we kind of put it all together?
Kathy Nguyen
12:51:12 PM
tuition cost for programs and what are the options for those who has financial aid that now "exceed aggregate maximum for loans"?
If we've taken several acceptable stats courses before, do you take the highest at grade for the prereq? You know what you can actually when you do the application, we ask you to fill out the prerequisite courses. You've taken an the grades you received, so feel free to put in the class that you prefer. An will look at that one. I mean, we'll see everything else, but will note that that's that you did really want that one stats course, 'cause if you took a few statistics courses, you probably have really great statistics knowledge since we only require one semester. So if you've got at least two to three classes.
I think you can definitely just pick the class you'd like to post.
If only applying for the second degree is the Jerry required, no, the Jerry is not required. If you are a BSN second degree student.
My school offers anatomy with the lab, but does not offer Physiology with the lab. do I need to retake Physiology online with? That's a great question, so I will say you have to email me and tell me like where you took human anatomy, where you took human Physiology, your grades, all of that stuff.
Kathy Nguyen
12:51:44 PM
if you do not have a bachelors degree, are you able to apply to any of the BSN program?
Kalkidan Kidane
12:51:47 PM
When do you have to sumbit the pre req for fall2021
Hours your anatomy lab was, but there is an exception where if you took human anatomy with a human anatomy lab and then you took a human Physiology course but no human Physiology lab, we cannot prove it for transfer credit and you do not have to take the Physiology course.
Jillian Umali
12:52:02 PM
Do many graduates end up working in the Penn hospital system?
Angelene Hayes Hayes
12:52:13 PM
Does upenn allow prospective students to shadow a class?
So definitely just email admissions at nursing and will take care of that. Do you prefer academic letters from science department's you-know-what? Uhm, not necessarily, not necessarily. I mean, you know if you are a psychology major and you've got a really great relationship with your advisor who's also your professor and who you may be doing. Research with that, we would want to hear from you. If you have a science professor who's really you have a great relationship with.
Victoria King

Can you quickly repeat the opportunity for accelerated BSN students have to apply for a MSN during the curriculum (suppose we didn't originally apply for the BSN-MSN)
You've done well in their class. You know they they know you very well and they can, you know kind of address what we're looking for then definitely. But if you're just going to pick a science professor to pick assigns professor, I would not. You want someone who knows you who can talk about your leadership skills, your academic abilities, your commitment to the nursing field, your involvement on campus, all of those pieces are really important to us. Your interaction with your fellow cohort members. There's so many different things that someone who knows you really well can add to the application.
Versus just having someone who's in the science field.
There is no centralized application service like Emcas. Oh wait so.
I will say nursing does have one. It's called nursing cash.
Claire Lee
12:53:25 PM
Can academic advisor write a recommendation?
We don't use it, but there is a centralized application service called nursing calf. I don't know much about it, but I do know there's a number of schools that will accept applications from nursing cats.
Paige Wickenden
12:53:48 PM
Just to clarify, the GPA of 3.2 to waive the GRE is NOT for the BSN- second-degree program, only for the BSN/MSN, correct?
Do you accept bachelors degrees from overseas in order to get the Gerry Weber? Yes, of course. Definitely now. If you have a bachelors degree from outside the US, you just want to have it evaluated. Make sure it's equivalent to a bachelors degree here in their evaluation will include a cumulative GPA and as long as it's a 3.2 or higher we will waive the jury.
Zach Dae
12:53:52 PM
If you have taken Intro Bio/Chem 1 and 2 but received a C- in 2 would 1 still be accepted for prereq requirement?
Taylette Nunez
12:53:59 PM
If you have been out of school for years and don't have a close relationship with professors, would a letter from a research supervisor be good? It would show leadership, academia potential etc.
I'm are any other test acceptable, accepted as a substitute. Now we only accept the juries for those who are applying to the BSN or the BSN PhD. We don't need any other exams for students to take.
Are their chances of getting accepted still good if you do not have any health care experience? What does think Penn think of lab research experience in psych?
Holly Flint
12:54:27 PM
Can you utilize a professor that you did research with (STEM research) as opposed to both being a class professor?
So I will say pen loves research experience where a huge research institution, not just in nursing as a University as a health system through our other partners, health partners. It's a huge aspect of who we are. So I will say in a hopefully came across in the presentation.
Everyone comes with just such such a different background. We have students who have a very research focus background, and that's how they've kind of come into nursing. And then we have students have a very clinically focus background, and that's how they've chosen nursing, and we have students who have had no experience whatsoever to research or clinical, but have had other experiences that have led them to nursing. So it's really about your story and how you express it. I do recommend at least some shadowing. I'm not sure what kind of research are doing in Psych, but I'm assuming it's involving.
Alex Westcott
12:55:11 PM
If the crisis is still around next year; how will that affect the program/admissions? Are students in the program currently able to do clinical work?
People so you can talk about that. If you're interviewing potential.
Participants for your study. If you are interviewing them, things like that. That's a definitely a big piece of it, so I would really think about all the stuff you do in. Just incorporate that. I know it's going to be a little bit hard for those of you who were planning to get health care experience this summer in this fall and doing shadowing and volunteering at the hospital. and I know what the current comment system coben situation that it's going to be very, very difficult if that was the case, I do recommend that you mentioned that.
Somewhere, maybe in your personal statement you know these are my health care experience. I was also planning to do the following, but due to code that I was unable to access it, I'm so excited to get started into nursing so I can get more experience. Like you can talk a little bit about it. If there were experiences you were going to take advantage of that you can, an will be definitely be understanding of that. I think it's going to be a little bit of.
A different kind of year in terms of exposure to health care. So maybe what you can do is look at your undergraduate institution, see if you can maybe interview somebody who's a nurse or in the field of Healthcare, whose interest practitioner, even if it's virtual, just to talk to them. 'cause I will say when you have exposure to health care when you've spoken to nurses and nurse practitioners when you've seen them in action, it does come across in your personal statement.
OK, it does come across as a very kind of informed decision that you're making doesn't mean that the others are not informed. It's just stronger when you have those experiences. So definitely do some virtual interviews with people that you know, family members that are in healthcare, etc.
It's general biology for non science majors acceptable. It depends on the course we post off the transfer transcript. So if it says general biology, internal bio entered a principle of biology will accept it 'cause we won't know. It's for non science majors.
Zach Dae
12:57:37 PM
If you apply for the BSN program and plan to apply to MSN once it is over, do you need the GRE to move up?
Do we apply to Penn nursing an University of Penn as opposed back? No, you just apply to our accelerated nursing program at Penn. OK, the only time you would apply to the University of Penn's a postback is if you wanted to take the prereqs. A pen through the College of liberal and professional studies, which is separate. OK, you just apply directly to the nursing school. You go to our nursing website and you click on admissions and then you just click on apply. Of course, you can apply right now I have to wait till July 1st, but that's that's where our application is housed and you're going to get an email from us 'cause you guys are already in our system. You're going to get an email from us when the applique.
Shingles live, and then we're going to do additional webinars and other stuff so you'll get more information.
Zoerina Ledwidge
12:58:12 PM
will there be a midwifery webinar?
UM, does bachelors degree GPA also take the re takes into account? So this is how we this is how we determine your undergraduate GPA. It's any and all courses you completed prior to your degree beam convert. So if you took classes at a Community College over the summer while you were still in undergrad, those classes we will incorporate into your GPA if you graduated and then took some classes they do not get incorporated into your GPA, but they are strongly evaluated and looked at.
And acknowledged, but they're not part of the GPA.
We just wanted to make it fair for everyone so you know, that's kind of how we decided on the GPS.
If I just graduated with a 3 barely 3 two but have worked full time in health care the entire time during my undergrad.
Grace Ostrop
12:58:50 PM
What ways can I get more information about the undergrad BSN program?
So if you're talking about the jury, if it's not a 3.2, you have to take the jury. The one thing that sometimes students will do is the apply second degree. Get to Penn and then some matriculate into the Masters because we waive the jury for our current BSN students, as long as they maintain a 3.2 GPA in their BSN coursework. So that's what I would recommend if you don't want to take the jury.
Do you need direct research experience prior to applying to Hellman? That's a really great question.
Victoria King
12:59:42 PM
How is the parking to get to the nursing building?
Holly Flint
12:59:44 PM
I have a Bach in Architecture from 10+ years ago, are they only going to look at that GPA and not the science classes I have been doing over the last several years as I prepared for medicine/healthcare?
It helps a lot if you have research experience, even if it's just like you're in an underground. Um, we've had students who applied to the PhD because they were working in Polisy Health policy in DC, so they weren't necessarily doing research. But I think you know they had that policy background an their job required them to research what they were writing, but it wasn't technically a research position, so I would say it just depends. You're more than welcome to.
Bronwyn Wallace
12:59:50 PM
I have a Science degree from 19 years ago, I was an average student because I was young and distracted. Now I have returned to school to complete my pre-reqs and my grades are significantly better as I am very focused. Will my undergrad Bach degree grades adversely affect my application?
Email me your experiences. Uh, if you want to send your resume, we can talk about it and see if it's a good fit for you in terms of applying to it. Now, once you're at Penn, if you really want the PhD and the research in the academia, you can come to Penn. Really get involved with some of the faculty research work with some of the faculty in applied to the PhD and apply to the Hillman program while you're still at pad.
Yes, you can apply to the psych mental health program as a BSN MSN student.
So we don't do acceptance rates by specialties.
It ranges from year to year up. I will say pediatric acute care has been so popular in the last few years we've had a huge number of students really interested in it, but we don't do specific acceptance rates by specialty.
For current undergraduate applicants, is the GPA calculated by the University they will be graduating, or is it a cumulative of all the institutions attended the GPA that we look at when we say undergraduate GPA is only from your bachelors degree program. Plus any courses you completed prior to the degree being convert.
So if you started at one school, transferred to another school, we would average those. We would put those two transcripts together for your undergraduate GPA, but if you finish your undergraduate GPA and then took maybe a graduate degree or did another bachelors or something like that, we would only look at your first Bachelors Degree.
Victoria King
01:01:16 PM
For the BSN-MSN do we apply for a specific specialty?
And this panousis BSN students with finding work required for those programs, we have a wonderful career services center. So yes, we definitely have career services resources that you can do interview. We've got alumni. You can talk to, but honestly if you're not in a rush to leave the Philadelphia area, you're going to create such a network while your append nursing student, you are going to meet nursing managers, clinical instructors. The lab instructors have more than half most of our lab instructors. All our Masters prepared.
Kateryna Melnychuk
01:01:48 PM
pls, tell about the duration of BSN/MSN program part time
And they all work in Philadelphia area, so they have all of these great connections they've been in these health systems for a really long time, so our students are really fortunate in that they get to really network and find a position through that. The only exception I would say is the ICU. So if you're interested in nurse anesthesia
Kassaundra Tickle
01:02:06 PM
I am still in love with clinical practice, but during this last year of my undergrad I have come to really enjoy research, but not enough to leave clinical and be research focused. Are there any opportunities for some research if I am in the BSN-MSN program?
Emily Sigillo
01:02:14 PM
What is the pass rate for the NCLEX-RN?
You're going to have to kind of brought in your map your map a little bit. You might have to go to Delaware. You might have to go to New Jersey. Still stay in the Philadelphia area, but go into some of these other places because there's only so many ICU positions for new graduates. And it's usually a residency program, so that would be the one that would be a little difficult, but you would be able to network just from the faculty, the clinical instructors, the healthcare system that you're visiting as a nursing student that you can kind of create that.
Also have a great career services center to help you.
And we also have alumni which I put on my PowerPoint. We have alumni in like I think every single state over 200 countries. Like if you want to go back to California, we have so many graduates in California and Boston in New York just everywhere.
How closely does the program work with the medical school affiliated hospitals is a common for students to work in a hospital where they trained after graduation. Yes, yes. So we don't do a lot with the medical school I will see that we definitely done some simulation learning together. They've definitely have tried, but I think because it's just the dynamics of them being in school for two years and then they do read clinicals.
Usually hasn't worked, but they definitely tried, but a lot of our students who stay in the Philadelphia area end up working where they've done their clinicals.
Do you ever greater greater chance of getting depends MSN program after completing the accelerated BSN Program I will say we have a 90% acceptance rate for those of our BS and 2nd degree students who some matriculate into the Masters, but it's not guaranteed there are Tuffley students get denied an it can be for their. They might have the 32 GPA requirement but they had really low clinical grades or science grades or when they interview with the faculty, their interest doesn't come across.
Strongly so they won't be accepted, but let's say you leave.
Graduate with your BSN. Go out, you work for a couple of years and then you come back to Penn Uhm.
I think it depends on the specialty. I think it depends on why you're applying to that specialty. I don't know. I mean, I think that the positive aspect is that we know the curriculum and we know the difficulty of our program and being successful in our programming, you'll probably be successful in her Masters program, so that's definitely helpful. But as a symmetric related student, it's pretty high if you do your homework and are prepared for the interview.
Eloni Porcher
01:04:42 PM
Can you speak to the ABSN curriculum? What makes this program unique compared to others?
Michal Novak
01:04:48 PM
The audio cut out, I'm not sure if it's my computer?
What's the advantage of applying for the BSN MSN as opposed to applying to the BSN and then returning later for the MSN? It's really just for some students they know they want to be introspective center and they want to go to a school where they can do both and not have to worry about Reapplying and not have to worry about like changing cities, moving cities, trying to find a new program so that I think that's the key. If you are like 90% sure you know your specialty 80% sure you know your specialty. 100% sure you definitely want to be in practitioner.
Cindy Zhou
01:05:18 PM
What is the tuition/cost for the BSN[-MSN Program and are there any scholarships available for BSN-MSN program?
The BSN MSN option is just nice 'cause you know from the get go. I'm going to be a pen for the next three to four years. Maybe work within those years but I'm going to be a student there. I'm going to be living there and I think it's just for people to know, but there's nothing wrong with finishing your BSN and applying to our Masters later.
Sierra Spain
01:05:30 PM
Around how many students enter Penn Nursing directly after completing their undergrad degree? Does this impact acceptance?
If you're accepted to the BSN, MSN, are you able to defer your MSN studies if you decide to practice as a CR in for a year to yes, you have up to five years to come back and complete your Masters degree, but it is really, really really important that if you know at the time of your BSN graduation that you're going to take two years off, just tell them right off the bat I'll be back in two years. You get slotted because you can only defer your start date one time, so if you can't start in 2024, you can defer to 2025.
But if you defer it again, then you have to reapply so.
We walk you through all of this. I promise it's not something have to know right now, but just something to think about. I think sometimes people forget you have to communicate with the program director and the school based on when you want to return.
Speech Occupational Therapy count as healthcare experience that is relevant to what pen is looking for? Yeah, definitely, definitely. I mean you're dealing with, you know, potential patients that have.
We have had a health care.
Concern, um, you're learning. You're learning about human development and developmental stages, especially if you're working with children. So for sure, you can definitely incorporate that.
Connie Truong
01:06:55 PM
Does shadowing dentistry count as healthcare experience that is relevant to what Penn is looking for?
Mamie Washington
01:07:05 PM
Can you apply to both the BSN and BSN/MSN programs....or if some one applies to the BSN/MSN program and is denied acceptance, would they be considered for the BSN program?
Can you apply to both programs? You can only apply to one, so you either apply BSN, MSN, BSN, second degree, or BSN PhD. I will say if you apply BSN, MSN and you're not accepted to the Masters we do accept students just to the bachelors. OK so it's not, it's not everything, it's not all or nothing for the BSN, MSN. So like last year a good number of students were not admitted to the Masters but we thought they were really good fit for the nursing program so we admitted them to the BFM portion.
So the cost of the program, so I will say our program is definitely definitely very loan heavy, so the BSN portion of the program is roughly 100 and $22,000 for the 18 months. Um, that's tuition and fees. We do offer financial aid but I will say it's definitely alone heavy program.
That's when I say there's very little flexibility with the BSN and there's so much more with the MSN, so like if you're not in a rush, you're working with adults you're interested in acute care oncology or family or.
Psych are Women's Health. You can work within our pen health system and they do have tuition benefits.
For our master students, uhm, so that you can finish that.
So let's see what percentage of students are on financial aid. What is the average grant? Oh, that's a great question. All my gosh, I think of anyone who applies for financial aid, gets something from patent. So we do a combination of need based grant which is completely based on financial need.
Connie Truong
01:08:20 PM
will applying to the bsn-msn program automatically mean that your application is considered for the bsn as a second degree program?
Alex Westcott
01:08:28 PM
Is Penn Nursing apart of the Yellow Ribbon Program?
Kassaundra Tickle
01:08:29 PM
how much is the BSN-MSN altogether?
And then we do merit based scholarships which is based on your application. So when we're reading the application, we have an algorithm and different things that we do that can kind of increase your merit based. So everyone who applies for financial aid receives some sort of financial aid.
I think the average Grant Slash Merit based in this combination of the two. Sometimes I would say probably between 20 and 25,000 per person.
Ali Lenard
01:08:51 PM
will you know what financial aid package you will receive before you must accept entry into the program/put deposit down?
Now that can change every year based on a number of different things, so we will we will see.
Um, what are your financially packages like? So it just varies by student. We do grant based funding which is anywhere from zero to $40,000 and we do merit based scholarships which is anywhere from zero to probably about $30,000 at the Max. UM, students get both. Some students only get one or the other. It just kind of depends on the process and we go to committee. We have a scholarship committee, so it's it's a little bit of everything.
Kateryna Melnychuk
01:09:22 PM
BSN second degree is full time only?
So the tuition for the MSN depends on the specialty that you choose. So for a 12 month nurse practitioner program I want to say $65,000, maybe 70,000.
Just to be clear, if we are interested in traditional undergraduate BSN program, we just apply through regular undergraduate admissions. Yes, if you are currently in high school or you are a freshman in college and you want to transfer to Penn for our traditional BSN or you're coming from high school, you apply to the University of Pennsylvania's undergraduate program, not through the nursing school you're applying to nursing. To be a nursing student, but you apply through the University admissions.
Would a letter of recommendation for my research Pi who I work closely with qualifies in academic wreck? Yes, definitely, for sure.
Yes, it can. Definitely. It will apply for both your supervisor, an academic for sure.
And if you're working in research, you know you might have a dotted line kind of. They might not be your direct supervisor, but there's like a dotted line to somebody else that can also be another recommendation as well. If it's another health care professional, maybe it's.
You know something that you work really closely with in research.
For the Internet by opi wreck, will you accept human biology class with the lab in genetics? We will definitely accept the genetics class. Human biology usually is kind of like a Pseudo Anatomy Course, so it depends on the course syllabus. But if you took a genetics course that will count for bio.
If you have to take courses to meet prerequisites, can they be taken during the application process or would you have to wait until the following year you can apply while completing prerequisite courses, but they must all be completed by May 31st of 2021 in order to start June of 2021.
What housing options are available for those of us from different parts of the country? Does the University of apartments for students to lease, so we have on campus housing which you are eligible to apply for is a graduate student. But I would say 95% of our students live off campus, either in West Philly, which is part of the University which is close to the University or downtown in Center City Philadelphia. So you would just have it's not technically University housing unless you live on campus.
Uhm, well, thank you. I'm glad you were you enjoyed the presentation, Ann. Please Uhm.
You know, feel free to keep in touch with us if you have questions. So if you're applying to the BSN MSN program, can you just get accepted into the BSN and not the MSN portion and then some matriculate later on?
Tanya Prabhakar
01:12:03 PM
Can students apply to the DNP program, after the BSN/MSN?
Yes, and it happens all the time. Like I mentioned before, we will definitely admit students into just the BSN if they're not a good fit for the Masters. Also, sometimes you might be a good fit for the Masters, but like if you apply to the FM P program, there's like 100 students that apply to the FM P program. Like we can't accept all of them, right? So sometimes we're just like these are really great applicants, but they don't have enough experience or knowledge of FNP. They're not as strong. If we didn't have 100 apps, they probably would be admitted into both. Uh, but because we have $100
you know we can't take 100 of you in families, so we will move you to second degree and then when you come to pen you can apply to the Masters.
Emily Yam
01:12:45 PM
If we are applying for summer 2021 session, does that mean we need to go back and edit our FAFSA to add UPENN for the 2021 session? Sorry, I am not exactly sure how FAFSA works for summer session.
Uhm, OK, already answered that. Could you explain the interview process a bit more short so it's a video interview? It's recorded on line, we give you the question prompts prior so you can prepare for it.
Strongly just recommend and like not reading a prepared statement if at all possible. 'cause it doesn't come across great, but just being yourself and just talking about your interest in Golden Nursing, your leadership qualities and you know we really want students that are going to impact our University. So what do you hope to do when you get to Patton like? How do you see yourself contributing to the community? The other thing that I think is really important is if you're applying to our Hellman program, it's an in person interview.
And it's usually a combination of two to four standing faculty that will interview you because of the PhD. Cozar PhD is fully funded for up to four years.
Um, usually three to three and a half our helmets.
Let's see here. OK, so if you're in the BSN, MSN program an you're interested in in the MPH or NBA when you start applying. Great question. You apply in the last semester of your BSN so you're going to apply in fall of 2022 and then some programs that you'll know right away somehow rolling decisions. The MPH I think has rolling admissions so you might know before the end of the year and then start taking classes in the spring or take the spring of- it just kind of depends but usually that.
Paul, the MBA program you apply the fall for the following fall because the MBA program is full time I think for two years and it starts in the fall every year.
Am I able to take the prerequisites and still apply for the program and send the transcripts? Yes, I I would say close to 50% if not more of our incoming cohort or just completed their last pre recs is this month, so definitely.
Gabrielle Fanfarillo
01:14:56 PM
Is the adult gerontology acute care nurse practitioner or the adult gerontology primary care more or less competitive than the FNP program?
Tuition cost for the programs and what are the options? Uhm, so if you exceed your aggregate maximum for our for federal loans, we don't know that. So that's something you want to mention to the financial aid office. If that's the case, then you'll probably need to do like an alternative bank loan, and you may need a cosigner. If you don't have a long work history.
How do we make sure that online courses are credit? Is there specific accreditation needed? All that's a great question. We do it somewhere on our website. If you can email me I'll find out with accreditation needs to be. I think it just has to be regionally accredited in your in the region. So like if it's from the South, like it's like the Southwest accreditation.
You know ours is middle states or something like that, so it just depends on why don't you send me the school you're thinking of and then we can double check for you.
If I completed some prerequisites at a Community College and they're not Wade into my undergraduate, which is just below a 3 two, but you do have to take the jerrys if you're applying to the BSN, MSN. If you took the Community College courses after you graduated with your bachelors, we can incorporate it. If you took on before you graduated like over the summers, we can definitely incorporate them so you'll have to kind of.
Figure out which one it is.
Jillian Umali
01:16:14 PM
I studied abroad for a semester. Do I need to submit a transcription evaluation from my foreign university?
Is there financial commitment if you do the BSN MSN, suppose we go into the workforce and decide we don't want to come back. Is there a penalty? Oh, of course not no. Not at all. You are admitted to two degree programs at Penn, but they are not intertwined in a way, right? You finish one. You can go work. Or you can go straight into the Masters. Or you can do both. And if you decide not to come back, you don't have to come back. And sometimes we have students from all over the country and sometimes they want to stay. But they have family obligations and they have to go back home where home is.
Or, you know they have a significant other and they're moving somewhere for a job, so they're going to move and they won't finish their Masters up pen. It's perfectly fine.
If we take you pen courses on course era and earn a certificate, do we include it on a resume?
Kassaundra Tickle
01:16:46 PM
Since there is a loan limit for each kind of degree through FAFSA, is the BSN-MSN calculated as a graduate program since you are admitted together? I hope this makes sense
Oh, definitely feel free to include that for sure if you're taking some Corsair courses, you could definitely included on the resume. You know, like additional learning, something like that for sure. Doctor Scanga. I think she's are amp professor at Penn and I think she does a Coursera course. Unlike vitals or something. So it's a great course.
I completed stats 19 years ago. Should I retake it, oh.
Josette Yeboah
01:17:06 PM
if you've taken a semester of human physiology with a lab does that mean you will have to only take a semester of just anatomy with a lab to satisfy the requirement?
I mean, if you're willing to retake it, I would definitely retake it, 'cause there is a research research course when you get to pen an and there's aspects of the program that you're going to possibly have to go back to stats. But That being said, if you.
Are working in research if you are using statistics, um.
You know you might not have to retake it, so if that's the case, feel free to email me some of your information. We can decide. I would definitely recommend retaking stats. 20 years is pretty long.
But we can also look at your other courses and see if it makes sense to retake it.
Where can I find transferable credits? I do have some of the courses from undergrad, but I want to make sure they can transfer or accepted. Well, we don't. I mean, there's no way you can find it the the slide that lists the courses. Honestly, as long as you have got those intro to nursing courses.
Rose intercourse is an interview anatomy intruder. Cam entered a bio. We just want the introductory courses. If you took those classes, they should transfer. If you took him from accredited college, have a C or higher, you have a lab with the Sciences.
Now I would probably, if you want to, you can always email us. Sometimes we can't tell you because it has to go through to the faculty and they won't review courses until after acceptance. But I can give you a good sense of like I think that you should retake it. It probably won't transfer, so feel free to email us specifically like what classes you would hope to have transferred.
Um were considered full time students. Does that mean five days a week for a full day?
Yes, full time students now. It's definitely five days a week for sure. Uhm, it's not necessarily a full day everyday all day for 18 months. This summer is a full day. You do 40 hours a week for nine straight weeks, but then once the fall semester begins some weeks.
Your lecture, lab and clinical requirement might only be you know 29 hours or 30 hours a week. It could go up, it could go down, it just kind of depends what classes you're taking, so it's not necessarily always 40 hours a week. We do have clinicals on the weekends. We have clinical in the evening, so it is five days a week, but it is not always Monday to Friday.
Gabrielle Fanfarillo
01:19:30 PM
Its not letting me go back to the slide about which MSN programs do not require experience before admission... Can you please repeat them again?
Does the five year requirement start from the year you graduate or they hear the course was completed? Its from the year the course was completed.
There's a dire need for more nurses of color. Given the health that health disparities are rampant in our communities, are there any organizations that increased awareness of nurses of color? What are the demographics for students of color, specifically African descended and Latina break question. So we do have. We've got some great research going on at the University in terms of health disparities, not just in nursing, but at the University itself, so there's definitely opportunities to get involved and learn a little bit more and.
Make um, how to be. You know, an agent of change. Once you're out there in terms of under represented uhm?
Students, I would say we're about 20%. Sometimes it's higher, sometimes it's really high. Sometimes it's a little lower, it just really depends on the year. Uhm, but I would say it's about 20% of the class, so if we have 85 students or so, it'll probably be around 15.
If I did the math right, uhm students so it, but it can fluctuate from year to year, so it's an average about 20%. If you're looking at that, we do have.
Different nursing organizations that you can get involved in at the school. There's also national organizations that do some work as well, so once you're a nursing student, you can petition or apply to get grants to go to some of these conferences that they have. But there's a lot of research going on in the nursing school in health disparities, so I would probably say the opportunities are going to be more with the faculty and their research centers.

Thank you so much for the time you spent to do this! Looking forward to connecting with you in the future!
Zoerina Ledwidge
01:21:43 PM
thank you!
currently, and that can change, you know, the one thing that if you look on our website at the student nurses organizations that we have, I would say a good number of them were started by our undergrad. I buy our accelerated students so you can definitely start a group, an organization that kind of focus is an area that you're looking. You know whether it's health disparities in Philadelphia. We do a lot of community outreach. We have a program called community champions that does a lot of work with diabetes.
Exercise children, so it depends. It kind of just depends what your what your area within the world of health disparities is, but I think you're.
You're going to get the most exposure and the most opportunity to learn and get involved. I think through our research.
Uhm, and then of course, there's so many different organizations period in the city of Philadelphia it on campus. That might be a good fit based on what they're involved in. It just kind of depends if it's not something you're looking for.
If my school offers two semesters worth of Gen Chem. And I've only taken the first half.
Yes, we only want one semester of Chemistry. We do not need the second part of come.
Tuition cost for programs and what are the options for those who has financial aid that now? Oh yeah, we talked about that already.

I have a masters in biotechnology and i have taken a few bio course and lab do i still have to take the 2 bios
If you do not have a bachelors degree, are you able to apply to any of the BSN programs? You must have a bachelors degree or will have a bachelors degree before the start of the program to apply to our accelerated program. If you do not have a bachelors degree, you can apply to our transfer program which is completely separate. It starts in the fall of every year in the deadline is March 15th of every year.
Uh, when do you have to submit the prereqs for fall 2021? You have to have all your prerequisites completed.
Uhm, well, we don't have a false start.
We only have a summer start, so they must be completed by May 31st of 2021.
Emily Glaser
01:23:26 PM
What date does the program start. My university gets out June 15th 2021, the day I graduate I believe
Too many graduates end up working in the penthouse. Yes, we have a really large number of grads that once they graduate, they work at the Penn Health system for a few years. Some stay on, some leave a variety of different things, but we definitely have a good number that end up working there every year.
Does U Penn allow perspective students to shadow a class? Uhm, it depends. You know it's hard because.
Yazmine Hooper
01:24:07 PM
Thank you Filomena! This was so insightful. Best of luck everyone. Be well.
But there's a lot of lab Tuesdays and Thursdays and Fridays. Most of our students are in clinical, so it's usually just like Mondays and Wednesday mornings that the classes are running. It's a possibility. what I would do is if we are live in the fall, you can always email us and then we can see if there's a date that works. It's just hard 'cause there's always finals 'cause these these lecture courses are like 5 weeks so.
You know, every other lecture has an exam because it moves so fast. So we just want to make sure that you're not visiting campus and sitting on the class where there's not much going on.
Can you quickly repeat the opportunity for accelerated students to have to apply for an MSN? Yes, so it's our sub matriculation options so students will apply to the Masters program while they are finishing their bachelors degree to while your BSN student at Penn. You can apply to any one of our graduate specialties within the MSN and you apply in spring of 2022. You're accepted by the end of the spring semester and then you're officially a BSN MSN student come this summer and.
You take advantage of all of those opportunities.
Yes, in academic advisor Ken, definitely write your recommendation, especially if they've been your advisor for a few years.
So the GPA of 3.2 to waive the jury is not for the BSN second degree program, only for the BSN, MSN. Yes, correct if you are applying to our second degree program you do not need. The jury is not going to be required. It's not going to be asked if you you don't have to wave it. It is still required for Arby's in MSN students, but if you have a 3 two GPA you can waive the requirement.
If you have taken into the bio chem one and two, but received a C minus in two, would one still be accepted? Yes, definitely.
So if you took bio one and bio too and bio she was a C minus, you just use bio one for your credit.
Brenden Pollock
01:26:08 PM
Do you think there will eventually be a sub-matriculation option for nursing anesthesia? Or should we plan on completing a BSN and reapplying after obtaining ICU experience?
If you've been out of school for years, would letter from a research supervisor be good? Yes, definitely. Like I said, if you've been out of school for a number of years and you don't have an academic rack, go with the supervisor wrecked. They hold a lot of weight. Uhm, they can be really, really strong for your application. Assuming there they write a really strong regularization.
OK, so let's see here, um, can you utilize a professor that you did research with as opposed to both being a class professor? Yes, for sure. So like if you maybe sometimes if you go to like a large large University, don't have an opportunity to get to know the faculty as well or your professors as well. So yes, if you've been working with a professor in research, definitely take advantage of that and feel free to send us.
Then their recommendation.
If the crisis is still around next year, how will that affect the program, admissions or students in the program currently able to do clinical work? That's a great question and I hope not.
There still working with the HealthCare Partners to see if there are students can go back. Um, our plan right now is that you might move things around. Meaning like we might front load lectures so that when things open up you can finish the clinical houres so they're playing with around with a lot of stuff. But there definitely definitely doing everything they can to ensure clinical hours are completed for all of the different clinical specialties.
Cindy Zhou
01:27:36 PM
If you received a C on any of the prerequisites required while you were in undergrad, do you suggest student to retake those courses to get a higher grade?
That you're doing so, um, but currently no one is doing clinical work because all of the hospitals and we're still in the red zone in Philadelphia. I don't know where everybody is from, so we haven't even moved to the yellow phase yet, so we're still technically in quarantine, so the hospitals haven't started, but there's definitely been a movement and we're moving to yellow. I think next week, so hopefully that will open up some stuff for us.
Anna Gabriela Ycaza
01:27:53 PM
Do all pre-req classes have a time limit? For example, if stats was taken 10 years ago - will that still be acceptable?
I'm if you plan to apply the BSN program and plan to apply to the MSN once it is over. You do not either Jerry's. If you apply if you maintain a BSN GPA of 3.2 the Jerry will not be required.
Um, we will definitely have a uhm midwifery webinar. So what we're planning to do is we're probably not going to have like this. We're going to definitely do some stuff in the fall with the faculty, so definitely check our website. It's not going to be able to accelerate, it might just be labeled graduate admissions or graduate information and things like that. But you can do some of those and they're going to include some of our midwifery faculty, Women's Health faculty. But once you apply to our program
Have a webinar for anyone who applied BSN, MSN midwifery to enter to meet with the midwifery faculty in here from them.
Um, what ways can I get more information about the undergrad BSN program?
So Grace feel free to email us at admissions.upenn.edu an I will refer you to my colleague. She's a wonderful resource. She works with our high school students. Uhm, who are applying to BSN program? So if you're in high school, tell me if you're in high school it tell me if you're in college 'cause it depends why send you too.
Zach Dae
01:29:29 PM
Thank you so much for your time Filomena! I appreciate all of the information and insight. Stay happy, healthy, and safe!
How is the parking to get to the nursing building? We do not have good parking in Philadelphia, so um, you do have to pay for parking if you're going to drive to campus every single day you want to work with our parking Department and the most of the parking lots are kind of slightly remote, so you might need a little bit of time to get to where you're going, but there's really no parking in nursing.
An if you have a bachelors in market architecture from 10 years ago and they are only going to look at that GPA, not the science classes. I've been doing. No, that's not true. So what we do is we look at the undergraduate GPA because as it accelerated pool.
Everyone comes from, you know, 10 years of work experience straight from undergrad. Uhm? You know, people have done graduate degrees. Everyone has all of these different experiences that they undergraduate. GPA is the only thing everyone has in common, so it's just one of the very many, many, many, many factors we look at now. Like I said, if you've been out of school for over 10 years, the undergrad GPA, so it'll probably drop to like #10 in terms of importance of different things.
We're looking at and your we always look at recent science courses. We always evaluate your prerequisite courses, they just might not be part of your GPA. But we literally say recently took anatomy and Physiology received in a all prerequisite courses are in a did really well over the last two. Like we will note that even if the GPA is lower the further away you are from undergrad, the less important your overall GPA becomes.
I have a science degree from 20 years ago. I was an average student. Now I have returned to school to complete my pre recs in my grades are significantly better. Will my undergrad Bachelor degree adversely affect my application? No. I mean if you've been 10 to 20 years out of undergrad, I promise you with the undergraduate GPA because we do a holistic approach to the admissions process. We look at all aspects of your application.
Emily Glaser
01:31:31 PM
Thank you so much for your time
One who just graduated from undergrad, that GPA is going to be top three things that we're looking at. I mean, you just graduated for someone who's been out for all those years. It is not going to be the one thing that we look at. It's something we will evaluate. It's something that we will address if it's on the lower end, but we were going to look at everything else. Kind of just really evaluate your recent coursework. Really evaluate your recent work experience.
For the BSN, MSN, do we apply for specific specialty? Yes, it's very important. You have to pick a specialty so I do tell students if you're not sure of the specialty, just apply second degree because it will come across in the application and it just makes it so much harder to accept USPS nonsense student.
Tia Thompson
01:32:08 PM
Thank you for all of the excellent information! It was wonderful and I look forward to applying!!
Still in love with clinical practice, but during this last year of my undergrad, I've come to really enjoy research, but not enough to leave clinical and be research focused. Are there any opportunities from reveur some research if you're a BSN MSN student, definitely.
So I would say so, a lot of our students who are at Penn.
Sarah Rotella
01:32:45 PM
If you are still a student in undergrad and you have good grades, but not much clinical or volunteer experience will this negatively affect your application?
Either Love Research maybe, not. Don't want it to be their career, but they really enjoy research. When I get more involved in research or just wanna experience research in at Penn, you can do all of that. It can be part time working with the faculty member you're really interested in. It can be while you're a BSN student you can do it. Why are in MSN student on a part time basis now we ask you not to work like 20 hours a week, but you could work 5 to 8 hours a week and research is the perfect part. Time job. So you will definitely have an opportunity to explore research while in nursing.
Anna Gabriela Ycaza
01:33:02 PM
If you apply for thr BSN/MSN program - could you potentially change your speciality during the program?
What is the pass rate for the end clicks? RN so our accelerated pass rate is in the high 90s. I think we're in the mid 90s as a school when you include our traditional program, but we're in the high 90s pass rate for accelerated students.
Can you speak to the adsm curriculum? What makes this program unique compared to others? That's a great question, you know, I I think the one great thing about so. A lot of schools out there will sometimes combine Pediatrics. It'll be into one clinical where we do two separate clinicals for Pete's NOB, so that's a big piece 'cause a lot of times it's pediatric. It's Obi impedes together, but you're going to have those two distinct experiences in the clinical environment. We also have a community clinical that sometimes is not separate.
Or even offered in a lot of nursing programs out there, so that's kind of within the clinical world that we do. But the other piece. I just think that are nursing program is not a tunnel vision program.
Yes, you are going to graduate with a BSN. You're going to take the end clicks and you're going to be a registered nurse, but the entire focus of the program is not to take the uncollected become an RN. The entire goal of the program is to help you become an advocate for your patient elidor in the field of nursing to be able to understand, research, evaluate, research. How does research affect practice? You know, as a practitioner, how can you will affect policy? If you really want to change something in the state that you're living in, what do you do?
How do you get involved? and I think it just gives you the kind of the wide open vision of nursing and all of the wonderful things you can do as a nurse versus that tunnel. Vision of like these are the clinical. These are the tasks you need. These are the skills you need to be successful. In the end. Claques don't get me wrong, our students are successful in the end clicks. We give you an click style questions, but we also have a research course. There's a policy course. There's a case study that you do. There's a senior residency program where you work with a faculty on research or.
Doing a poster presentation or anything that you're really interested in, and I think it just opened your eyes to the field of nursing. And there's a lot of programs out there that is just very kind of tunnel vision and.
Meet the ancl X requirement. Take the exam becoming a registered nurse will see you later, where I think a pen. It's really just kind of how are you going to be the best at what you're doing and how are you going to be successful when you're out? There is a nurse. And how do you evaluate all this information that's coming at you as a practitioner?
I think those are the big things. Um, in terms of the of the curriculum and just being a pen.
There are scholars, so we talked a little bit about financial aid. There are definitely scholarships available grants for both the bachelors and Masters component.
Um, so about how many students enter Penn Nursing after completing their undergrad degree. You know why it's growing every single year I've been a pen for 15 years and 15 years ago I could probably count on one hand how many came straight from undergrad, and I would say it's probably about 20% of the applicant pool and probably other incoming cohort as well give or take so it does not affect your acceptance at all.
The shadowing dentistry counters healthcare experience that is relevant dependence, looking for. Great question, you know, it really depends. I think as an applicant you just want to see what your experiences in dentistry.
Watch what it was that led you to nursing maybe, and if there's a correlation, or if there was something that was missing in dentistry that you saw in nursing that you were happy to or prefer to be involved in. I think it's really up to you to kind of differentiate like I had this healthcare experience in dentistry, and because of it XY and Z happened so as long as you can kind of tie it all together, it's fine.

01:36:53 PM
Thank you so much for all the great information! It was so informative and helpful. :) Thanks!
OK, so I already answered the BSN MSN and if you're only admitted to the MSN, uhm?
So if you apply BSN, MSN like I mentioned before, it's possible to be denied to the Masters but accepted to the bachelors. OK, all of our applicants are considered for the BSN portion, even if you're not considered if they're not admitted to the MSN or PhD pen is part of the yellow ribbon program. Yes, um, I have to say I'm not. This is such a hard question because I feel like I could never get an answer on the yellow ribbon. I'm not sure how much of the funding they match.
So if you want to email me, I'll try to get an answer for you, but that's the one answer that I've had a really hard time trying to figure out.
OK so the BSN, MSN to wish and you know it's roughly 100 and 22,000 for the BSN and the Masters really depends on the specialty but I would probably 65 to 95 for the nurse practitioner programs.
You will definitely have a financial aid package before you have to accept the program for sure. We do not want. We are very very very transparent on the cost of the program. When you get your financial aid package you will see every single, every single charge. Um, not every single charge, but you will see tuition and fees. All the loans are eligible for broken down by semester.
The grant that you received the scholarship that you received the loans are eligible for and what your responsibility is. The one thing that's not in there is probably, you know, like your stethoscope and stuff like that. But we are, we really want students to make an educated decision on attending Penn and financial aid is such a big part of it that we do not leave it to chance.
Um BSN second degree is full time only so the BSN accelerated program is full time only for the bachelors component.
You can apply to the damn P. Yes, definitely. Once you finish your MSN, you can definitely apply to the DMP. I'm hoping they'll come up with the summer tribulation option for the DMP for those who are already in the MSN, so we'll see if that happens. By the time this cohort would start.
So if you're playing for summer 2021, does that mean you go back and edit, are faster to add you pen for the 2021 session? Yes, you're going to add, yes, you're going to add pen for the for the 20.
So you're going to do right now. You're going to do the twenty 2021 session break and summer one is part of 2021.
It's part of 2020-2021, but then when the new fast book comes out in January, you'll just make sure to add pen to it.
Let's see here. What else do we have? Is the adult gerontology acute care practitioner?
Emily Yam
01:39:41 PM
Just to make sure, so if you apply for either just the BSN or BSN/MSN (Psychiatrics) there is only a video interview and no in person interview? In person interview is only for phd?
I'm so yes it is. It is less competitive FPS, very popular program. It's always been our largest program. Like I said, I've been here for 15 years.
It's always had the most number of applications. It's always had the most number of uhm.
Applicants every year for 15 years, so it is definitely more competitive now at the Masters level. There's a lot of adult gerontology, acute care nurse practitioner applicants at the Masters level. Because there's so many more working in acute care.
Um, if you studied abroad for a semester, we do not need.
You don't have to submit evaluation from the foreign University. You can just send us a copy of your grades from that plate from the University went to. Also, if your grades are posted on your undergraduate transcript, you don't even have to send us.
The foreign University transcript.
Since there's a loan limit for each kind of degree through Fasfa.
No, so way it works is the BSN portion is considered undergraduate. The MSN portion is considered graduate so it's separate.
Emily Yam
01:40:51 PM
I'm sorry the audio cut out when you answered my FAFSA question. Could you please repeat your answer about applying for 2021 FAFSA? I submitted my FAFSA for 2020-2021 already, should I go back and edit this to add UPenn or only add UPenn when filing for the next FAFSA, sorry about that!
If you took a semester of human Physiology with the lab, does that mean you will only need to take a semester of just anatomy with the lab? Yes, if you took human Physiology with the lab, you only need human anatomy with the lab to meet our anatomy Physiology requirement.
Uhm, it's not letting me go back to the slide about which MSN program do not require experience before admissions. Let me go back, I'll just put it on here real quick.
OK, these are the programs are require work experience. Any primary care program, family peace, primary adult gero, primary, psych, mental health nurse, midwifery, Women's Health do not require work experience. Now That being said, it is sometimes recommended right? So if you are a new graduate from undergrad going straight to the BSN program, chances are the faculty going to ask you to go work as a nurse if you've been out and you have work experience and life experience.
You will have a better chance of being able to go straight through into the Masters program.
OK, thank you. Thank you. Thanks for logging in. Uhm, I have a Masters in biotechnology and I've taken a few bye.
Of course is in lab. do I need to take the two BIOS?
So you have to take. You probably don't need to take intro to biology 'cause you probably have that, but you definitely need interna microbiology. If you don't have a microbiology course.
And you need anatomy and Physiology who didn't take anatomy and Physiology, so I'm not sure which to bio classes you're talking about.
What date does the program start? OK, so so if your University that is so.
It usually starts the second week of June. I have had, so I guess next year I don't know. I need to look at a calendar 'cause I'm not really sure.
Josette Yeboah
01:42:51 PM
Thank you for a very informative presentation, Filomena!
So next year June it'll probably be June 14th, which is just the day before. So I will say in the past I've had a few students that were able to. Just because it's only a day apart, you finish all your stuff so early that they were able to start the program. As long as we can get a letter from the registrar or your Dean or your advisor that you've met all your requirements and you have your bachelors degree, you could still start, but it's going to be on June 14th next year.
That's my understanding. Now if it changes in its June 7th, that might be a little bit more difficult. The good news is that we do have an admissions to Furman at Penn, so this is for Emily. You can apply this year. And let's say we move the start date to June 7th, 'cause I can't remember like when graduation is. It's based off of like when our graduation is when we start.
Message June 7th and you're accepted. You could always defer for a year and take a gap year and do some other stuff and then your spot is safe for next year.
Oh, thank you. Do you think there will eventually be a symmetry culation option for nursing a seizure? So I will say we used to have a sub matriculation option for anesthesia which we no longer offer and it's simply because you're literally applying almost four years before you would start the anesthesia program so students are going to be required to finish the BSN and reapply after their in their ICU experience. So what I usually recommend is why you're.
In your second year of ICU experience, you apply to the anesthesia program because you'll end up working close to three years before you start.
If you received a C on any of the prereqs required while you were an undergrad, do you suggest you to retake those courses to get a higher grade?
Erica Danhoui
01:44:30 PM
This was so helpful, thank you!
I would require. I would recommend that you retake the course is if you got to see in Anatomy.
Anatomy, Physiology, microbiology.
Bronwyn Wallace
01:44:48 PM
Can you talk more about what the Family NP course involves, and clinicals?
If you got to see in those two classes, I would retake those two classes. I mean, those three amp, one and two and Micro the other ones. Not necessarily now, if you receive to see in a lot of the pre recs.
Monet Porzio
01:45:09 PM
Thank you, Filomena!
I would probably maybe retake stats, retake nutrition, um, if you had to see in all of them, but if you got to see an amp part one or Part 2 or human anatomy or human Physiology microbiology, I would recommend retaking them.
To all prerequisite classes have a time limit. For example, if stats was taken 10 years ago, statistics from 10 years ago will be fine. You don't have to retake it.
Thank you, thanks for logging in up.
Gayatri Nair
01:45:42 PM
Thank you so very much for the presentation and the patience to answer each question in detail. Huge Respect!
If you're still a student undergrad and you have good grades but not much clinical volunteer Sarah, it will not negatively impact your application. But I will say if you're an undergrad, something that I didn't mention is that as an undergraduate student, you know we talk a lot about like we want students that are going to come to Japan and be involved on campus in a variety of different ways. So you definitely want to highlight your.
Leadership and your involvement on campus. But I would definitely definitely do something, whether it's interview, a nurse or nurse practitioner. Maybe do a zoom call with like a family member who is in the field. I would just do something. Uhm, 'cause I think it can help your application. It won't totaly.
Yazmine Hooper
01:46:11 PM
Since the pandemic, institutions have resulted to the pass/fail grading system, I received a pass in a prerequisite course as opposed to a B...will that be sufficient?
You won't get denied based on that one piece, but I think it can if you have a really strong GPA in your active on campus, having that extra piece can really, really just kind of bumpy to the top.
Sarah Rotella
01:46:33 PM
Thank you so much!
OK, if you play BSN MSN can you potentially change your specialty during the program? Yes you can for sure. Our students can definitely change their program specialty uhm.
While you're in the program, it's not a guarantee, but you can meet with the new program director. Have a discussion with them. Sometimes they ask you to write a personal statement, meet with them, talk to them, and then if they approve it, they'll switch your program and you can go into the new program.
Thank you for logging in, um.
Correct, yes, all of our BSN second degrees, BSN, MSN students currently we are not offering an interview now.
Our faculty love him to death. They changed their mind a lot, so it's possible that I could hear from our pizza, cute faculty, and they could say, you know what I think we want to interview them this year. Or I could hear from our peace primary program faculty, and they'll be like we want to interview them. So it's possible that you would get invite to interview, but we would let you know, and we would give you warning on that. But as of right now, it's just the video interview.
Anna Gabriela Ycaza
01:47:33 PM
For the Women's Health Specialty under the BSN/MSN - does this also include learning about abortion care?
Uhm, OK, so for the fast food question you need to go back for the 2020-2021 and add pen correct? And then when you do next years class flow which will be sometime this fall, you just make sure you add pen for that you're correct.
Alright, thank you for logging in.
Emily Yam
01:47:56 PM
Do you think an introvert can succeed in a career of nursing?
So the FNP program is a Masters program, it's 16 months. It starts officially full time in the fall semester, which is like end of August, that pen and the FM P program has clinicals impedes.
Cindy Zhou
01:48:14 PM
Thank you so much Filomena for your time and the thorough presentation! Are there any opportunities to tour the nursing department and speak with you or other staff in person? (once quarantine is over of course)
Adults, Slaton as well as women in Gerontology. So you will do clinicals across the lifespan, from newborns to 100. Plus UM. Students usually average 20 to 25 hours a week in clinical with their nurse Preceptor and our faculty, we find all of your clinical sites at Penn for the bachelors for the Masters, the DMP, we find all of your clinical sites and your clinical preceptors.
Ivy Jones
01:48:52 PM
Hi! Will this powerpoint be available for us to review after the end of the webinar?
And you will definitely have different preceptors annual be in different settings for the majority of your clinicals. So when you do Pediatrics, you'll be in one setting. But then when you do Med Surgeon General, I mean adults, your adult will be a different site than the Gerontology Clinical.
And the great thing about our Masters program not just FNP but all of 'em. All of the program directors. An associate program directors in the majority of the faculty that teach in those programs, clinically practice as that nurse practitioner. So are, you know.
FNP program director works as an FNP and she works in the ER in New Jersey. A few shifts a week, she's got private. She just private practice, are Pete's primary program director does private practice like it's amazing.
Our program director for Pete's acute care program is a nice is, a pediatric critical care nurse practitioner at chop practically works full time there, so everyone that's teaching at graduate level is also actively practicing, so it's really real world education and training.
Thank you, um, since the pandemic institutions have resulted to the pass fail grading system, I received a pass in a prerequisite course as opposed to be so we completely understand that and what I would I'm trying to figure out how we're going to do this on the actually write that down on the application. So I will say.
Gayatri Nair

Are the preceptors NPs? Does international student need to take TOEFL/IELTS even if they have a graduate degree from the U.S.?
If the prerequisite course was anatomy and Physiology, I'm going to strongly recommend that you have a faculty member. Email me. OK, 'cause amp is so important to us, but it's not going to negate. If your professor won't write you an email, it's fine, you can just tell me what your final grade was. I believe you are going into a very honorable career, so I'm just you, but it's perfectly fine. We know a lot of universities did not give students the option to take a grade this past semester, so if that was the case.
It is not a problem. OK so we will we understand it. You can always try to send me an email. You can put it in the application. What your final grade was. There's a lot of different ways. I'm going to try to figure out how we can do this.

Thank you so much for this webinar. All of your information was very helpful and your Q&A time very thorough. I'm excited to apply!
About the application, so will definitely in the one thing that I will tell you is I read all the applications for Penn an if I'm reading your app and everything looks great, but I'm like I really wanna know this amp grade. I will email you and I'll say is there anyway you can reach out to your professor to have them tell me what your final grade was. So I think it will depend on the class.

My local community college has a strict course repeat policy. I am unable to retake my Intro to Physiology course from 7 years ago due to this. I received a C in the class. How will the admissions committee take this into consideration?

How does it work if, as a BSN student, we apply to matriculate into the MSN program? But, we want to work for a year or so? Would we defer?
So for the Women's Health specialty under the BSN, MSN, does this also include learning about abortion care? Yes, we do our Women's Health and nurse midwifery program include abortion care, for sure.
And we also have a student organization, uhm?
Nurses, nurses for choice. I think it's what it's called. It might have been started by an accelerated student and they do some work as well.

Thank you for your time and answering every question! It was a great presentation!
An introvert can succeed in a career of nursing. It's funny, uhm, yes I do. I really do. and I say that because there is so much you can do with a nursing degree that it's not all bad side. It's not all acute care ICU. There's a lot of wonderful work that nurses need to be apart of work in Polisy Public health. Working for the Department of Public health. Think about the pandemic that's going on right now and having that knowledge of nursing and clinical and.
Anatomy, Physiology, viruses and all that stuff and being able to make a difference in terms of access and testing. So I think there's a lot you can do. That being said, if you are worried, you definitely have to do everything you possibly can to do some shadowing in a hospital environment, and I say that because the education and the clinical experiences for the BSN 80% of them are in the hospital, 80% of them are going to be with patients that are very sick.
Very well, uhm. There's going to be. Families are going to be annoying.
Rightfully slow because they're rightfully so, because their family members are sick and scared. Parents are really intense, so I would just say think about that. Just make sure you're comfortable in that environment. But I definitely think you can in nursing, 'cause you might realize that you know one on one patient care is not for you and you want to use this nursing education and knowledge to work on health disparities, to work on access to public health health promotion. There's just so many ways that you can go.

Just to confirm - does the application for the accelerated programs open in July?
But do not forget the training and education for the BSN portion. A majority of it is in the hospital with a lot of people running around and people talking to you constantly. Just something to think about but I would say yes.
Um, my pleasure Cindy um.
Are there any opportunities that or the nursing Department and speak with you or other staff members in person? Yes, once this is over.
Fingers crossed visitors are going to be allowed on campus. I think that's going to be the biggest thing. We're definitely not going to be like huge events, but hopefully will be able to have a few visitors on campus where we can do one on ones and for sure. So just keep your eyes peeled. You can email me, may become like mid September or beginning of September and I can give you some more insight on like hey, everything's back up. Feel free to schedule a visit.
Yes, the power point will be available for review as well.
Are the preceptors an pieces? International students need to take the toll full so.

And once you apply when do you hear back about potential interviews? And then ultimately when do you hear back if you get accepted into the program?
Yes, so the nurse so OK, so at the Masters level.

Can we email you individually if i have questions
When you have a preceptor, it's one on one preceptorship it's Masters prepared MD or dio. Those are the three options as your preceptor when you are at the bachelors level. Everyone is Masters prepared, not necessarily nurse practitioners. Kind of depends.
Most of them are but but Masters prepared nurse is.

will penn help us find preceptors or is it up to the students to do so?
Are there any tuition benefits for U Penn employees? Yes, the good news is our bachelors program is technically an undergraduate program, so the tuition benefits are wonderful. It's just really hard to be full time student and do our program. So just email me. You know if you have the most flexible schedule in the history of the world and you can be gone for huge chunks of time during Monday through Friday, it's possible that you can use some of the tuition benefits. But I will say in my.
15 years I've only had two students complete the program on a part time basis as an employee and it took the one like three years for years. Something like that.
So feel free to reach out to me. Um, my local Community College has a strict course repeat polisy I'm unable to retake my intruder Physiology course from Seven years ago. Due to this I received a C in the class. How would the Deanna this is for Deanna? I would just go on line 'cause right now everything's on line anyways for the summer and take the human Physiology course somewhere else and not at the Community College. You definitely want to retake it first because it's over 7 over 5 years old and you definitely want to show.
The Admissions committee that you know.

If I am 100% that I want to do NP, but still deciding on what type, would my application be strong enough for BSN-MSN? Or should I just focus on doing BSN first?
The sea does not represent your academic ability, and they're going to do well in the program, so I would just reach out to another school Oregon completed on through an online program.
How does it work if a BSN? How does it work is as a BSN student we apply to matriculate into the MSN program, but we want to work for a year. Yeah, you just defer. It's it's actually a leave of absence. You take a leave of absence like an administrative leave of absence, and you say I'm going to work for a year and a half. I'm going to start the program part time On this date. I'm going to start the program full time. On this date. You double check with the program director. Make sure your slotted.
Yes, the application for the accelerated program will open in July. As of right now it's July 1st, but it could be after the 4th of July, so just keep an eye out, but we're going to send you an email letting you know we're ready to go.

Sorry, I missed your answer to this question. Can you please address it once more.- Does international student need to take TOEFL/IELTS even if they have a graduate degree from the U.S.?
OK, so um, we do not do in person interviews except for the Hillman program. The Hillman interviews are usually end of December early January. Um, all decisions will be available first week in February.
Yes, you can definitely email me individually if you have emails for sure.
We find all of your preceptors an that is such a huge, huge piece, so whatever schools you're looking for, especially just make sure that they're going to find your preceptors. Annuar clinical sites. It's a really. It makes a huge difference.

How many years is the accelerated BSN/MSN program? If it's full time is it 3 years?
Because they also are screening them for you and making sure that there are a good fit and that you're going to learn the skills that you need. I'm 100% sure I want to do the NP, but still deciding on what type, um?
Be a strong enough for the BSN so if you're 100% sure what I would do is if you're deciding between two very different programs, definitely like a year like I'm either going to do pizza oncology or I'm going to do. You know Women's Health primary maybe just concentrate on BS and 2nd degree, but if you're really thinking like I'm really deciding between FP and adult Gero primary very similar, I would go ahead and pick one of the programs and apply.
But definitely do all your research on the one you apply to an be very very informed on the specialty. The role of the nurse practitioner lights a good fit for you and how it helps you meet your goal.
Oh uhm, you know what I didn't answer this. I'm sorry. OK, so does do international students need to take the toll full? I I I let's? Even if you have a graduate degree from US, no. If you have completed a bachelors degree.
Graduate degree in the United States you do in English actually, not the United States English speaking program. You do not have to take the telephone.
OK, so it really depends, so it's 18 months for the BSN.
And then I would say on average it's 3 1/2 years.
Connie Truong
01:59:30 PM
can you recommend any resources where we can better understand each specialty? i.e. adult gero and FNP can be similar
On average, some programs will be 3.
Pete's primary will be 3 uhm. Cycle be three and two months. Uhm so I would say 3 to 3 1/2 years full-time straight through for most of our nurse practitioner program.
OK, next question is can you recommend any resources we can? We can get better understanding for each specialty. That's a great question.
Let me let me see can you send me that email and I'll find out for you. There's definitely national organizations for nurse practitioners in primary care in acute care, Women's Health, and with free. So I think they would be a great site. I'd have to find out which ones they are.
